by Jannat & Pawan Manghnani on June 30th, 2016

About

Grand Barbeque Buffet Restaurant is a fine contemporary restaurant serving authentic Indian, Chinese, Arabic & Continental cuisines ranging from authentic Barbeque Kebabs with choice for both non veg and veg delicacies, British curries, traditional Arabic, Punjabi to the age old Dum Pukht Mughlai.

Grand Barbeque Buffet Restaurant is an eclectic mix of flavors and colours that combines traditional style barbeque with exclusive ingredients and preparation techniques that gives delicacies a flavor of their own.

Review

It's always a pleasure being invited by different restaurants because they want your honest opinion and view about them! Grand Barbeque Buffet was no exception and we instantly booked our visit and made our way there with a huge appetite!

It was super easy to locate as its very close to the iconic Ibis hotel in Satwa! There is aplenty parking so no worry about that.

Ambiance

Quite frankly, we underestimated the place and had a perception of it but everything changed when we arrived! It was 9:00pm then, and the majority of the Iftar crowd was about to leave so it was a bit bustling with activity and people!

The interiors will almost transport you to any other fine dine restaurant but update with bright light instead of the same old dim-light mood settings! A combination of gold and brown makes up for most of the place which makes it look quite royal honestly! Not bad at all, we thought! Also, the restaurant is HUGE! They say they can comfortably accommodate at least 250 diners at any given time. Wow!

The co-owner of the place had made arrangements for us in one of the "private-cabin" style rooms, which we thought is a great addition to any restaurant especially for large families that would appreciate some quiet and privacy to themselves!
The private cabin is very rare in restaurants in Dubai. I can literally count the number of restaurants that still have them and was completely impressed by the privacy and space of this particular version.

Food

After we settled in and ordered our drinks we were escorted out of our cabin to the buffet area to pick our salads! There was a huge salad counter with at least 12 different varieties in veg as well as non-veg. They also had a ton of sauces to go with them as per the individual liking of the customer! My favourite was the chicken barbecue salad and the hummus! One of their special varieties was the pineapple salad which was basically thickly cut pineapple tossed in a balsamic-ish tangy dressing! Yum!

Drinks

Once we went back, our drinks had already arrived and those tall glasses filled with goodness appealed equally to us like the food. We ordered a Jaljeera, a Lemon mint cooler and a Fresh lime soda! All three of them completely refreshed us from the summer heat and we then dug in to our salads!

Live Counters

There was such a huge variety here, we were gobsmacked! From chaats, to dimsums, through to a pasta counter to a chocolate fondue as well! Where else in Dubai do you get so many variations?
From the chaat we had the paani puri and the dahi puri, both which were beyond amazing! We got them in cute portions of 3 and were made fresh in front of us! Full marks for the innovative presentation.
The dim-sums (my wife's favourite!) were refreshed every few minutes, and I am positive I saw her gobble down a whole serving by herself! I believe they had to be extraordinary for that to happen.

Appetizers

On to the appetisers, we were told we'll be served those on the table, which added to the entire experience which was already on a high level at this point!

So we obliged and patiently waited on our seats to be served. First in was the non vegetarian platter which included:
Hariyali Murg Tikka:
Succculent and tender pieces of chicken cooked in a green masala! Really really good and delectable.
Mutton Sheekh Kebab:
I almost asked the recipe for this one! Its definitely one of the best we have had in a very long time.
Achari Fish Tikka:
One for the good health! This was a complete guilt-free dish and we loved it!
Murg Kadak Sheekh:
Very average, but with the amazing choice and the food just pouring in, we just dug into the next one served!
Mutton Spring Roll:
This one was a tad bit too oily on the outside, but the soft minced meat filling inside more than made up for the outside layer.
Stuffed Tandoori Chicken:
An all time favourite, this one was a no--brainer and an instant favorite amongst us! The stuffing was equally delicious as the chicken itself. Divine combination.
Chilli Chicken:
YUM central, and as much as we promised ourselves portion control, we couldn't keep our hands off the Chilli Chicken, and yes we demolished it within a few minutes of discovering it! Bye Bye diet.
Hot Garlic Fish:
The hot garlic fish was not only crisp on the outside but was tenderly soft on the inside at the same time, something I know is extremely difficult to achieve.
Roti Pe Boti:
An innovative starter in my eyes. This one was a clear winner not only in terms of presentation but on taste too. Big League. My only suggestion would be to flatten the roti even more, as the current ones were slightly on the thicker side.
The vegetarians had tons to choose from too, sadly, something that is rare in most buffets. But Grand Barbecue Buffet has fixed many of the problems that generic buffets have.

Tandoori Paneer Tikka:
Huge chunks of semi soft paneer, that were flavoured to the brim and presented in fours!
Gobi Manchurian:
The best in the vegetarian lot I felt. Ive missed Indo-Chinese food for a while this place just satiated my cravings!
Tandoori Mushroom:
Can't go wrong with spicy mushrooms! These were my second favourite on the veggie lot!
Saunde Aaloo:
Spiced baby potatoes, not only looked cute but were satisfyingly good tasting! I just realised how veg food can also be interesting!
Crispy Corn:
Surprisingly only I was the one to appreciate the goodness that was crispy popping corn! Each morsel was a burst of texture and if I could I would have eaten it all!

They also had unlimited veg dimsums which our company did't indulge in!

Mains

We were literally filled to the brim with the appetizers, but because they really wanted us to try the main course, we opted to try a little bit of their:

Butter Chicken:
Out of this world! It was one of the very well made butter chicken dish we've had! We coyly in fact asked them if we could take the leftover of our potion home and they generously agreed! Yay!
Mutton Biryani:
Served in a clay pot, this was a "dum" biryani, with a roti covering the top which also gets cooked simultaneously! Its a very traditional way of cooking and its not seen often nowadays. The biryani tasted really good with the raita, its just that the lamb pieces I felt were a tad bit undercooked! Nonetheless they were spiced to perfection!

They have tons of more variety for the main course that our blog simply won't justify! You need to be there to experience the amazingness.

Desserts

We do not know where to begin! It's a buffet so obviously they had 6 million varieties (It really felt like 6 million). We tried a few, and each one of them was outstanding, and the ones we didn't try, we'll probably be going back to try them all!
Doodhi Ka Halwa:
My wife was raving about it when i decided to give it a try, quite apprehensively of course! But it was surprisingly really really good. Doodhi in general is very neutral in taste, and hence it works well as a dessert!
Payassam:
Favourite! We've been eating payassam since childhood and its amazing how it tastes similar everywhere around the world!
Gulab Jamun:
I mean since it was there, how can one NOT grab a piece or two? And then taste it and like it and then grab some more! Yes, this was really good!
Cappuccino Mousse:
Oh, coffee flavoured desserts are a default favourite of my wife! And she was all praises for this one!
White Chocolate Mousse:
Smooth whipped cream with some divine white chocolate bits. Whats's not to like here?
Chocolate Fondue With Marshmallows:
Yippie! We were literally hoarding the fountain because we didn't want to let go! Must've eaten at least 6 marshmallows each!
Roohafza Kheer:
Again a nostalgic dessert, because growing up, roohafza was a staple drink in the summers for us! Absolutely smashing!
Ice Cream Counter:
We did try a lemon and banana flavoured ice cream and it was spectacular, but they had a ton of options in this as well. Go nuts!

Service

The service was beyond excellent, with our servers jumping to fulfil any need of ours and also with their recommendations, and its something we noticed being done with almost everyone who asked! Much appreciated.

Verdict

The food varieties are ENDLESS here with more than 80 dishes on offer from about 6 cuisines, and Iftar or no Iftar, you must go here to experience excellent quality food with a very reasonable price of AED 75/-. Where else will you get unlimited dimsums and chaat on an Iftar menu? Its definitely a steal and we highly recommend this place for a visit with the entire familia. Oh, and make a reservation for the private cabin!
